Welcome to the world of the DragonLance Saga! Dragonlance is a high fantasy setting created by Laura & Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis. The world came to life with the first Advanced Dungeons & Dragons module ‘DL1: Dragons of Despair’ published by TSR in March 1984 and the first novel ‘Dragons of Autumn Twilight’ published by Random House in November of the same year.

I had a campaign where the Clerics of Mishakal were sending missions to Zhakar to try to cure the mold plague it was a fun mini campaign.
Oh wow, that's interesting.
We are agreed on the subject of Flint Fireforge.
Nice!
So, how DL1 is equally "railroady" than, idk... B2 or X1? looking forward your comments
I don't know anything about B2 or X1. I never got into playing modules till I was an adult, and then I was engrossed in Dragonlance.
So ....don't go up to one and say" mooooo" right?
Hahah, yea, definitely don’t do that.
@@DLSaga ok fine how about " got milk?"
I'm not sure of the costs involved but any thought to doing a limited run with the 40 Years Logo merch? That would be sweet.
I can’t use the full Dragonlance logo for merch, as it’s copyrighted.
@DLSaga gotcha, I forgot about that. What about adding the 40 years part to your DL Saga logo? Just a thought, thanks!
I've been looking at these recently. Maybe in the budget soon.
No worries. If you do, let me know what you think of them.
Zhakar is far too dangerous to go too, Unless it was a rescue mission to save a party member or save others from who were captured there!!!
Yea it is not in the most convenient of locations :)
@@DLSaga yeah it's NOT a vacation destination 🤣
loled @ "the ogres of bleh" thx for vids

Thank you for watching today's Dragonlacne setting episode. What do you think of Zakhar? Leave a comment below!
This is so awesome, thanks! Lots of great lore for my 2 minotaur players
I hope it helps. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for highlighting these Dwarves. I had forgotten about them over the years. Just how Kender filled the slot of Halflings in Krynn, I think these dwarves fill the Duergar slot. As time goes on I find more appreciation for the racial tweeks that creators made. A huge part of what makes Krynn "Krynn" in my estimation. Awesome content.
Oh 100%! I really appreciate the lore building. It makes for a more immersive world.
Great stuff as always! This vid got me thinking about how much the Dragon armies relied on the Zhakar and other dwarves for quality metalworking for armor and weaponry. It didn't seem like the Draconians would have the patience to craft weapons or armor, yet they were being created by the hundreds at a ridiculous rate and needed to properly equipped. It re-contextualizes just how important the Companions' alliance with Thorbardin was. If the Dragonarmies had a powerful "manufacturing plant" operating in Western Ansalon as they did in the east, it would have given them a huge edge. And that's today's overhinking comment 😂 Cheers!
Absolutely! And you can see why the Dragonarmies were trying to conquer Thorbardin so badly!
Good points. There's a lot of adventure writing oportunites that could centre around the parties efforts as behind-enemy- lines resistance cell, hampering the supply lines of the dragon armies.
@@Off_Grid_Grognard oooh that sounds cool 👍
In blades of the tiger they mentioned a white robe. It would be nice to have a white tower of Armach.
That was such a great series.
Par-Salian was evil. He all but guaranteed Raistlin would end up in black robes. Up until that point Raistlin had fought for the poor and abused and against false profits . Cursing Raistlin with the Hour glass eyes set in motion his desire to rise above and the drive to want to fase the gods , only Raistlin's innate goodness saved Krynn from disaster.
Interesting take. I haven’t heard that one before.
"Hawk the Slayer" is free on UA-cam... totally a DnD movie :)
I'll have to check it out!
Thank you for watching today's Dragonlance Gaming episode. What do you think of the session? Too much Death Dragon punching or not enough? leave a comment below!
I think Raistlin was awesome. Sometimes I feel that I can relate to him; I love him. He believes knowledge is strength.
Thanks for watching, and sharing your thoughts!
@@DLSaga You're welcome.
I have three copies of the Chronicles, Portuguese editions that I read as a kid, the 1994 TSR paperbacks from when I decided to read them in English, and then the softcover Penguin Omnibus Collector edition from the early 2000s. I'll be sure to get this one as well.
That’s great!
It's UK only, I wish we could get this in the States, as I understand it it's through Penguin UK which probably has publishing rights for the original DL books only- Wotc has control of it stateside...
The October release is in US. This UK release was in March
@DLSaga Nope, UK dates are dd/mm/yyyy, so it's 3rd of October 2024 (3/10/2024), not 10th of March (10/03/2024).
@@TheHistoryofDnD Thank you for the correction!
I’d like to see it released individually with the original logo and covers.
They’re on the secondary market…
@@DLSaga yeah but they’re usually beat to hell.
I agree with you completely on Jon, bro he's been shown and overshadowing the literal authors of the books!
Yea it’s a bit odd
Thanks for the heads up--please post an update when a pre-order link is available for the US! :)
Will do!
Hello, I have the Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition, how does it compare
Unfortunately we don't have any other details yet. I will post more when I know it.
@@DLSaga greetings from denmark
I've always loved that the different color dragons had correlated personalities that went along with their denomination. I get the feeling that many modern gamers have done away with that, and any dragon can have any personality type, but I like the way DL handled it. 👍
Yea, it makes me want to stay away from modern games.
The only anthology I kept was the War of the Lance one. I enjoyed that one the best, especially Niles' story about the Vingaard Campaign
I’m excited to get into it.
2:23 WotC has something akin to Stockholm syndrome centered on Hollywood and actors. Somehow D&D/Dragonlance isn't "real" until a celebrity or the NYT Bestseller List tells them it is. Seattle Inferiority Complex.
It’s wild.
Hate to point this out but it looks like the silver dragon on the cover looks like it was traced or AI'd of Todd Lockwoods Silver Dragon from Dragon Magazine #284. Could I have a second opinion.
That's fair!
I think this is great, I'll get it for myself. I actually bought my dad the black leatherbound special edition trilogy thing with gold edged pages when it came out... for 75 bucks. He totally threw it away, don't even ask. I am still upset that I didn't just get it for myself. ANYWAY, this is good news.
Hi Goldmoon! Why would he throw that away? Oh shoot, I wasn't supposed to ask 😂 Hope you're doing well, my friend!
@@CANDROU1 Getting rid of things can be good and bad. I am well, my friend. I hope you are too :D
Wow, that’s just… yea I hope there’s a hardcover version.
You asked about a campaign right after the Cataclysm? That would be epic! I can just imagine great role-playing moments potentially like a Solamnic Knight character who is being attacked by angry villagers blaming him for the Cataclysm. Does the character fight back? Run away? Let them beat him to death? And that's just off the top of my head. A lot of cool ideas that a great DM like you could have fun with!
It could be a great morality tale
I tend to overthink things (Shocker!) But I've always been fascinated by real world physics and nature blending with the magic and fantasy of Krynn. For example, I don't think the plagues that came after the Cataclysm were put there by the Krynn gods but rather a function of dormant viruses and bacteria being suddenly brought to the surface by the changing landscape. That combined with people's lack of food sources and nutrition in my head canon is why the plagues took place.
Definitely! I always saw it as a disruption of the land and its people so that trying to survive took over cleanliness and disease naturally spread. I compare it to The Road
@@DLSaga good comparison. Totally agree 👍
The mass animal die off alone and the resulting unattended corpses being home to feeding flies, tics, etc passing diseases along. Also all the corpses is the waterways. The natural world is deadly enough, without fantasy elements.
@@DLSagaAnd that Sir, is the bleakest book I've ever read.
Didn't Weiss and Hickman have to sue WoTC for breach of contract to even get their last two books published by them? Aside from the last two books, WoTC has made it very clear they have no interest in publishing novels anymore, and it took Weis and Hickman settling out of court to change that just for them. Unless WoTC changes their mind with regards to publishing novels, Dragonlance is d-e-d dead. Their lackluster D&D campaign certainly didn't do the future of Dragonlance any favors.
As sad as your comments are, I can't argue with a single one. I don't know why WOTC doesn't just sell the I.P. since they clearly value it so poorly. The right company could make a fortune with it, (video games, movies, etc) cause they're are so many great themes that are universal in Dragonlance
Yea, I think that’s why there’s the classic moniker above the logo. The publisher wanted to do it, not WotC
DragonLance is NOT Dead, we didn't need Wotc to make two Dice Roll back in the day and still don't, but it's not dead.
I apologize for not articulating better in the chat - in one of the anthology stories (I forget which) a Kender describes that the gods warned the Kender of the pending Cataclysm but told them it would come "from the West", knowing if they said the truth - that it would come from the East and Istar, that all Kender in the world would have gone to see it and they'd be extinct. I just thought that was a fun little story nugget. Cheers
lol it could have been a ploy to get rid of a gray stone race lol
To answer your question, I have 3 copies of the Chronicles Trilogy. The first, the white book with Tanis, Sturm and Goldmoon on the cover has been taped and re-taped dozens of times from reading it over and over. Then I bought the Annotated version and love that one, and finally I bought another one last year to read with my son. But this 40th Anniversary is gonna have to make 4 copies! 😂 Thanks!
This would be 4th for me too
Any positive DL news is ALWAYS appreciated! I'm not one of those avid DL collectors like I've seen online, BUT this is something that I would really like to get, it's a big milestone and very cool to own. Thanks!
I hope there’s a hardcover version.
I'm certainly pumped to buy some dragonlance
Hehe yea me too

Thanks for watching!
When he tells the goblin (Fewmaster Toede?) "I am magi, do not touch me" I was like "dayum!" Great video 🤘
Yes great character
I have fun memories of this area from the gold box Dragonlance computer games from back in the late 80's early 90's. Wish they would remake those games with today's technology but still in 2d.
Yea! That would be awesome!
Thanks for another great video Adam. Awesome content as ever.
Thanks! And thanks for watching
A thought came to mind during the part of the video where you described the weather in different months of the year. A really fun and helpful vid for Dragonlance DMs would be a video describing the 12 months of the year in Krynn. To add flavor, you can talk about popular Krynn Holidays and what month they take place, or what month important events like the Cataclysm took place. I know, I know - stop giving you more work to do! Haha, 😂 Sorry!
I’ve done a holiday video. A calendar video would be interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.
The addition of the weather info is great for DMs. I always made my PCs do a bit of geography homework for travel and adventures in areas they aren't familiar with. I quite enjoy the Wilderness and Dungeoneers Survival Guides of 1st edition. As evidenced by real word conditions, the natural world is more than enough to hamper/kill a party without the fantasy monsters even added in. Take for instance the party has successfully completed thier "adventure" and now has to haul their loot out on the backs of mules (if they had the forethought to bring them). A sudden lightning strike (not uncommon in a stormy vale) to any of the donkeys would likely kill them all, possibly melt and fuse the treasure together into unweildy lumps (not to mention a hit on any armoured characters, or those holding a lance). I enjoy monkey- wrenches and unforseen problems that the players must think outside the box to solve. I find environmental threats are great for this.
@@Off_Grid_Grognard great call! Environmental obstacles are a really fun addition to a D&D game
Good stuff! That Throytl Gap is a key strategic area during the War of the Lance as it's a direct pass for ground armies to attack Neraka, and vice versa.
It’s an oft overlooked nation.
I wish somebody would do a good Gray Hawk. Channel
There are Greyhawk channels. Do an UA-cam search.
Greyhawk Grognard is a great source for all things Greyhawk. Although, you will find it difficult to find another youtuber covering AD&D with video production on par with Adam's channel here. If I had to guess I would say that Adam has skills on par with a video/media designer and a professional voice actor.
Good work, my friend.
Thank you!
